Following the same theme as my last post, I am HUGE on using techniques to prevent diet screw ups.
Let me put his bluntly…
I fuckin’ love food.
And because of this fact, it’s important for me to keep delicious healthy foods at my fingertips to prevent myself from making a chipotle trip or ordering delivery from my local BBQ joint.
Now, I’m absolutely not saying you should deprive yourself of the food you love. One of the main benefits of intermittent fasting is that you can save up a calorie buffer and enjoy larger, denser meals. But for me, if I start eating out a lot, a chain reaction starts and I have trouble starting. I start gaining a bunch of water weight from all the extra salt, which makes me feel bad about my appearance… can you see the snowball effect?
One of my latest strategies that I’ve been using for the past six months is cooking with a slow cooker. I talk about it in this video if you prefer that format, but I’ll discuss it more in writing below the video box.
So what’s so special about a slow cooker, right?
Well, maybe it’s my love of BBQ, but slow cooking food almost always results in something DAMN DELICIOUS. Maybe it’s just me…
It follows nicely with my last post. I’m not just filling myfridge and pantry with random foods. I fill it with the ingredients to make awesome, super healthy meals in my slow cooker. I also buy ingredients for non-slow cooker meals, but that’s outside the scope of this post!
Buy firm veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, collard greens. Then buy protein. I prefer fattier meats like london broil and boneless country style pork ribs. Get grass-fed, pasture-raised if you can!
All I do is throw it all into the slow cooker with a little bit of water and some oil right before bed. Set it to low and it’s good to go the next day.
Now instead of having to think about some fancy recipe or ordering tacos, I just go eat! It’s already done, and it tastes great. Grocery shopping is on easy mode because I just buy those same types of foods and they almost always work fine.
That’s it! How do you put your diet on easy mode? What are some ways you make success the EASY choice?
